Bespoke Pumpkin Trail Map for Banbury
A locally inspired map design bringing families, schools and businesses together through creativity.
The Challenge:
Seasonal trail maps can often feel generic, with designs that could belong to any town. Working with Banbury Business Improvement District (BID), the challenge was to create a bespoke pumpkin trail map that felt uniquely connected to Banbury.
The aim was to transform a practical wayfinding tool into a playful, engaging experience that encouraged families to explore the historic town centre, discover local businesses and connect with their community.
Our Approach:
Designing for little explorers
We approached the pumpkin trail map as more than a navigation tool. Through thoughtful, bespoke design, we created a playful visual experience that encourages young people to explore Banbury on foot, turning a journey through the town into an opportunity for discovery.
Celebrating Banbury's identity
Rather than using a generic template, we focused on creating a design that felt personal and rooted in its location. By considering the character of Banbury and the people who would use the map, we gave the pumpkin trail its own identity and created an experience that celebrates the local community.
Connecting creativity with movement
A key goal at ThomFong is to bring creativity and movement together in ways that enrich everyday experiences. The pumpkin trail embodies this ambition, using engaging design to inspire people to get outdoors, move through their surroundings and connect with the places and people around them. Working with Banbury BID, the project also supports local businesses by encouraging people to explore the town centre at their own pace.
The Outcome:
A map as unique as Banbury
The finished pumpkin trail map combines playful, bespoke design with a strong sense of local identity. Rather than using a generic template that could belong to any town, the map was tailored to Banbury, creating a distinctive experience that reflects its own character and community. It transforms a simple town centre visit into an opportunity for people to explore, discover and see their surroundings in a new way.
Creativity that gets people moving
The project brings one of ThomFong’s core goals to life by combining creativity with movement. Using engaging design to encourage people to get outdoors and explore on foot, the trail creates opportunities to connect with local businesses, spend time together and engage with the town. It demonstrates how thoughtful, place specific design can turn a simple map into a meaningful community experience.
